Connexus : Issue 37
The 2011 Abacus/AM Institute Convention will deliver a first rate educational program, mutual- focused networking events, and a platform for growth and vibrancy for our industry. "Optimism and opportunity" is this year's theme, recognising the new doors being opened for mutuals. The program aims to bring fresh perspectives from market and topic experts as well as strong contributions from mutual industry leaders. An impressive list of keynote speakers for 2011 is already confirmed. These include Dr John Laker (APRA); Professor Ian Harper (Deloitte Access Economics); Ita Buttrose; Rod McGeoch; Todd Sampson (Leo Burnett and The Gruen Transfer); and international industry representatives, Adrian Coles (Building Societies Association UK) and Tracy Redies (Coast Capital Savings Credit Union Canada). Breakout sessions will draw on market leaders and mutual innovators across a range of hot topics such as 'Targeting mutual growth: 20% by 2020?'; 'Capital & funding strategies for growth'; 'Mutuality: messages, mediums & meaning'; and 'Governing for more market'. The Emerging Leaders program continues, bringing new perspectives to the forum on topics such as leadership and social media. The backdrop for the 2011 Convention, the tropical city of Cairns, is situated between the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. The social program will make the most of this location commencing with Saturday's Caulfield Cup race day at the Cairns Jockey Club; Sunday's Bridges/ Data Action Golf Day at the Paradise Palms Resort and Welcome Reception at the Cairns Passenger Terminal; as well as our closing dinner at the Convention Centre on Wednesday evening. This premier event would not be possible without the support of sponsors and exhibitors. Abacus and AM Institute recognise the cornerstone Platinum Sponsors in Bridges Financial Services, Cuscal Limited and First Data whose ongoing support is significant and appreciated.
