Connexus : Issue 40
T he planets seem to be aligning for the newly named Big Sky Building Society as new account switching r ules complement its recent merger with a major mutual organisation. An integration in March with Lifeplan Australia Building Society means Big Sky has strong ties with parent company Australian Unity, the national healthcare, financial ser vices and retirement living organisation which has a proud mutual history dating back to 1840. Big Sky chief executive Tony Ryan says the merger presents a per fect chance for the for mer credit union to target Australian Unity members who need access to better banking services. “ When it comes to the switching changes, it couldn’t be a better oppor tunity really, because the 285,000 Australian Unity members will all have relationships with bank s,” he says. The aim is to approach members, who already have a relationship with a mutual through Australian Unity, and advise them that with Big Sky they can now get a mutual-owned banking option. www.abacus.org.au 25
